Hello LDG Carnavaleros,
I hope your week is going well and everyone is in good health and good spirits. Below are a few updates to prepare for our next week in our Carnaval journey.
Makeup Ideas and Sample Fedora - Thank you so much to our fabulous Monika for compiling this and creating such a beautiful presentation; and thanks to those who contributed ideas.

Volunteer Pacing and Water Monitors - We are almost full with our Pacing and Water Monitors, so if anyone wants to Volunteer for Pacing/Water Monitor please have them email latindancegrooves@gmail.com before 5/10/26. All monitors must attend the last Outdoor Rehearsal on 5/23 from 12pm-2pm at Visitacion Valley Middle School, to get an orientation, practice parading with us and pick up their t-shirt and then of course, be there with us for the Carnaval Parade Sunday May 24, 2026 starting at 9:30am. Thank you!!!
Video Disclaimers (attached) ~
As we have mentioned, this year we will have the talented Alma Herrera Pazmino filming our weekend of Carnaval for a mini-documentary about the experience. Because we hope to have this year's mini-documentary Carnaval video submitted to dance festivals, we will be asking everyone to sign a Media Disclaimer. We will provide printed disclaimers to your Section Leaders and request that you sign them before 5/17/26. If you have any questions after reading the attached disclaimer, please let me know.
Remaining Outdoor Rehearsals:
Sunday 5/10 & 5/17 and Saturday 5/23 12pm-2pm - Visitacion Valley Middle School, 1971 Visitacion Ave., SF, CA 94134
Please arrive between 11:45am-12noon to Outdoor Rehearsal and try to carpool since the parking lot gets full. We all need to exit the Schoolyard and Parking Lot by 2pm so Gina can lock up and go home. Thank you so much Gina for hosting us at your school!!!
Proposed Agenda for this Sunday Rehearsal:
12noon - Elizabeth and Dudley Check in with Section Leaders
12:10am - Section Huddles and Everyone get in their placements in the order we were in last Sunday. All dancers please memorize your placements (which row, which column) because you will need this for our formation.
12:20pm - Warmups
12:40pm - Run through choreographies back to back
- Rie Y Llora (in place - maintaining our spacing/lines/rows)
- Vem Sambar (in place - maintaining our spacing/lines/rows)
- Vivito y Coleando run through (without formations)
12:55pm - 10 Minute Break

1:45pm - End Rehearsal - last minute notes. Exit the Schoolyard/Parking Lot.
Please pick up all your belongings and let's clean up after ourselves so the newly renovated schoolyard can stay beautiful. Last Sunday there were 2 black sweatshirts left behind - I will bring them this weekend.
Our Contingent Number is #37 out of 72 groups
Our Parade Staging Location on Sunday May 24, 2026 is 2400-2406 Bryant St., SF, CA (near 22nd Street).
Arrival Time at the Parade Lineup is between 9:30am-10am.
Our videographer Alma Herrera-Pazmino will be filming the entire time - so smile for the camera :-) As usual, we will be competing in the Contemporary/Fusion Category.

Shout Outs:
To our 30th Street Senior Center Seniors who are Performing at the OnLok Gala Friday 5/6/26. Betty Pazmino has been working tirelessly with our Senior dancers for months to prepare them for this beautiful event, and they look amazing. Last year, they raised $3,500. at this Gala for their Carnaval Section!! Thank you Betty, and all the dancers: Terumi, Bebe, Sherry, Vania, Sharon, Medy, Marta, Maria Esther, Louisa and Beau.
Thank you to everyone who has already hosted Crown Embellishment Workshops and sent photos. I can't wait to see your beautiful creations!!!
Special shout out to our fabulous behind the scenes Carnaval coordinator, Rosie Hammond Balderian! She does so much for our Contingent including coordinating the Tiny Dancers Section logistics, Assisting the Section Leaders, Coordinating the Embellishment Workshop for the Tangerines, Securing Rehearsal Space for Tuesday Section Rehearsal, helping me find a new T-Shirt Vendor when the other was unresponsive; helping me secure important Volunteers, helping me convince Steffy to lead our Tiny Dancers in movements; and so much more! Every year, she helps me with countless tasks and does it all with a smile on her face. She is one of the biggest reasons I keep coming back to do Carnaval! We love you Rosie!
Thank you to all the Section Leaders, Bethica, Rachel, Meena, Nicole, Subini, Aimee, Mitzi, Maddie, Caro and our fabulous Monika and Betty Pazmino for your support as we approach the culmination of our Carnaval Journey! We could not do this without your care, compassion and commitment. Thank you so much!!!
